Expression of collagen after corneal incision
Permalink

This study illustrates part of the fundamental basis behind mini ark. That the collagen expressed during incisional surgery in fact strengthens the keratoconic cornea...

Quote:

'After linear corneal incisions type XVIII collagen was clearly seen in the stroma and in the epithelial basement membrane'.

'The results suggest that type XVIII collagen is broadly expressed in ocular tissues and that it may have a role in wound healing, especially after incisional corneal wounds'.

Bear in mind that these results were gathered from lab mice, but it is still of interest when viewed as a stepping stone to understanding the science behind mini ark.
