The diet you mentioned may be able to enhance the corneal thickness and there is no harm in starting it prior to an operation.

A month after the procedure patients are allowed to swim using protective goggles making sure not to dive underwater yet at that point. It really depends on the stage of the disease and the course of the recovery because some patients are able to start more moderate activities in the first few months such as jogging, biking, skiing, etc., while more advanced cases usually require at least 6 months as a precaution.

The cornea in advanced keratoconus is very thin and more time is required for the regeneration and repair that strengthens the cornea. The incisions must be very delicate to have a strong adhesion that keeps the new form after surgery. Activities that promote stress for the eyes may keep the cornea from achieving an optimal form.

Flying is not a problem after surgery, but patients with advanced keratoconus are advised to wait at least 6 months before performing aerobatics.

Thanks for the reply! The recovery period and limitations fit in exactly with what I already had in mind. Take it easy for 6months then slowly get back into things.

Maybe we should take this to another thread, but has there been any evidence that any foods/diet can help the cornea grow? There's no blood vessels to deliver nutrients, but on the face of it you would think diet could affect health.
