Here is the update about my son's adventures with contact lenses after one-eye epi-on crosslinking.  I've been away from computers for several weeks now.  Also, I haven't see my young adult son, Dan, during the last few weeks.  All I can tell you now is the good and the bad of this next step "contact lenses" as he reports to me over the phone.

First, the good part.  After extensive online researach and phone calls, I was able to find an optometrist in the city where Dan lives, who is very patient and specializes in fitting KC contact lenses. Dan likes and trusts her. Yea!  According to Dan, at his first contact lens fitting, the optometrist said that she was able to get a 20/25 correction in both eyes.  So that is good news.

However, he has been unable yet to master getting lenses in and out of his eye and tolerating the lens once it is in.  I mean, he is having a very, very difficult time with this.  Synergeyes contact lenses were tried, however they are bigger than RGP's and apparently much more difficult to insert and remove than RGP's.  A week ago RGP lenses were ordered for him.  So, they should arrive next week and he can begin the challenging task of mastering putting them in, taking them out, and adjusting to wearing them.  While the possibility of  20/25 vision sounds really great, the handling and wearing of the lenses  is still uncertain. 

It does sound like this optometrist is someone he can work with.  However, finding the right fit and adjusting to lenses may be difficult and take quite a while.  I am going to look at this as positively as I can and assume he will get a good fit, get comfortable with inserting and removing the lenses, and have much improved vision.
