E 99C Hi, I'm very interested in what has been posted here and I have a son who is 26 yrs old in a couple months and is deaf. He was diagnosed with kc a couple years ago and I have been trying to find a cure for him. He is depressed and it's been weighing very heavily on my heart and I'm asking, please help me out with a regimen that might help him through this process. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am not going to express an opinion about whether dietary supplements can help with KC.

I will say that cross-linking is a medically recognized procedure for stabilizing the cornea and slowing further progression of the KC. Also there are contact lenses that can significantly improve vision with KC.

KC is a relatively rare condition. While most eye care professionals (ECPs) will profess the ability to manage KC, in my experience ECPs who are truly skilled with working with KC can be hard to find. Contact lens fitters with the skill and patience to fit a KC patient are also hard to find. I encourage you to find a corneal specialty ophthalmologist with a particular interest in KC to evaluate your son and help him select a management plan for his KC. In the likely event that the plan includes contact lenses, hopefully the ophthalmologist can help you find a good contact lens fitter.

Best wishes for your son and I hope he is able to find a way to manage his KC such that it is not the burden he currently finds it to be.

I'm a herbalist and naturopath with a client with this and am formulating a programme now. From my Traditional Chinese Medicine one hour diagnosis it become very clear that "Liver Energy" and "damp" and "heat" are the main factors contributing. I know this may sound medievalist to non familiar ears ! But rather than spend a long time explaining the presuppositions and theory I'm just going to explain in what basis I've found this (without impact on confidentiality) and my approach with herbs and diet. Not every factor will apply as it's very individualises, but there should be some correlations via signs and symptoms and hopefully this will give people hope. Eye issues are generally related to the liver in TCM especially when one sidededness is pronounced (one eye worse at first ( esp right side) . When the vindiltstion shows heavy use of drugs alcohol medicinal drugs OR sensitivity to mall amounts over a lifetime and this use continues that is one factor. He liver manages our own chemical hormone factory so high / long term stress (adrenaline / cortisol ) is another major factor. "Damp" is a phrase for excess water pressure, tearyness, bloated, heavy head, maybe systemically bloating, loose stool etc. My feeling is that the next part "heat" doesn't apply to every case - hot people, red eyes, burning, high thirst, worse in hot weather with spicy hot foods etc So to address this the herbs I chose were herbs that : detox the liver, reduce heat, astringe, calm the nervous system and heal the eyes. I do Not recommend anyone try replicate the one size fits all formula. It just doesn't and I don't know any other people's medication, contraception, family history, etc (versus my clients). But I'm listing them just so anyone here can see the kind of approach a herbalist will use. I don't use Chinese herbs by the way, as they're massively time consuming to make brew etc and taste kind of Toulon that form. Where as tinctures are a teaspoon of herbs a few times a day. Anyways my choices were these herbs in one mix : Milk thistle Eyebright Burdock Chamomile Leonuris cardiac a Stachys betonica Mint It would have been ideal to add acupuncture but the client wants to just use herbs and diet. The diet part I'll base on TCM principles, following the same protocol above. Foods that astringe, help the liver, do not overstimulate, are eye specific (eg carrots ) I'll be suggesting reducing hot damp oily foods - eg wheat dairy high sugar, spicy /hot, excess nuts. Surgery is planned for one month (before the person came in) so I'm of course really hoping it can be cancelled. It would be nice to have had more time but a lot can change in a month too, so I'm hopeful or if changes are very evident to the client that they may postpone if more time is needed. I'll return next month and update people if that's useful. And btw I'm not touting for business I'm very very far from an expert on this ( though it's explicable from a holistic perspective ) and I simply want people to consider getting in contact with their own local experienced naturopath who specialises in herbs. Or who does acupuncture and herbs. Good luck to you all. A.

Hi. Im from and living back in Tanzania. Im going to be 40 in September. Ive had kc for a longtime and did not believe crosslinking etc has ever been the first option of chioce for a solution for this condition. The topography of my eyes have been done and the doctor I was with at the time was surprised that my eyes were not as bad as he thought they would be or gotten worse. Ive heard of a 23 year old with a corneal reading in one eye of 480 who couldnt read his books or computer anymore, when mine on both eyes are lower and I still see alright. I also have used specs and lenses to improve my condition and have left these behind now for some time. What I know is that the following helped me. My eyes improved when I stopped wearing both of these things. I also started doing eye excersises for awhile which helped a lot. Being out in the sun is one of the greatest medicines anyway for we wouldnt function without it. Diet is another one. As long as you eat your vegetables, fruits, omega3 foods etc, the literature is there, I know you cant go wrong. There is a list of foods given for this condition. Vitamins and minerals which you get from these foods but also from supplements. Your vit b, vit d2 and vit k2. Your bilberry and lutein. Look this up. It is all there. Of course some have been mentioned from some of you. Im just confirming what has been that is all and also saying dont allow anyway to give you a death sentence. There is no such thing. Another form of treatment to look up is ayurveda. One is by dr. Vikram amongst others. I almost went out of my mind before I read the literature I have now read because I trusted doctors when Ishould have trusted the doctor in me. You wont believe it is only recently I started researching kc, while doctors were making money off me, misinforming me all these years. I feel lucky because I come from a family that has always eaten naturally, been sportsmen and women and we live to coincide with our mothernature as possible. Its great to know we are here discussing this and I thank you all for giving me more hope.
