World’s First 3D Printed Cornea Implant

A 76 year old Israeli woman had her vision restored using the world’s first 3D printed cornea implant.

The implant was created from human corneal cells using advanced bioprinting technology. One small donor sample can be used to produce 100s of corneas, which could solve the global shortage of donor tissue.

The successful procedure marks a major step toward treating corneal blindness with lab grown, highly scalable implants instead of relying on scarce human donors.

Please Note: An indication for the use in Keratoconus is not yet available.
